Minutes of the DESPEC Ge array working group meeting at GSI, February 11th 2005 Participants: A. Algora, D. Balabanski, W. Gelletly, J. Gerl, P. Greenless, A. Jokinen, A. Jungclaus, I. Kojouharov, M. Leino, Z. Podolyak, D. Protic, B. Rubio, K. Spohr 1) short discussion about planar Ge in general (GREAT planar Ge works ok now) - more information in the next meeting 2) discussion with D. Protic from FZ Juelich about "his" planar Ge R&D work to be done: - reduction of the size of the guard ring if possible - at least use the guard ring to suppress "bad" events (for that any signal is ok) - in case of many channels cabling is a problem (thin Kapton cables lead to bad resolution) - Is it possible to place the first stage of the preamp close to the detector ? 3) We decided to consider both planar Ge as well as Clover type detectors in the simulations for the Ge array. The groups from Bucarest, Debrecen, Madrid, Paisley, Sofia, Surrey and Valencia volunteered to work on the Monte Carlo simulations. So far I got the names of the following persons: Mihai Constantin Bucarest Alejandro Algora Debrecen planar Andrea Jungclaus Madrid planar Pavel Detistov Sofia Clover Luis Caballero Valencia Clover The groups of Paisley and Surrey should give me names as soon as possible. I will contact all the people involved in the simulations soon to coordinate the work and get started as soon as possible. 4) The following persons volunteered to think a bit more in detail about the experiments we plan to realize with this Ge array and consequently about which situations should be included in the simulations. beta-decay: W. Gelletly, B. Rubio, A. Algora isomers: Z. Podolyak, J. Gerl, G. Rainovski 5) The next meeting of the Ge array working group will take place the 7th of April in Surrey. The simulation group (see 3) should try to get started by then (setup the geometry and so on) and the "thinking" group (see 4) should be able to provide detailed input for the simulations on April 7th.
