Dark Matter and Dark Energy from a single scalar field

Abstract:

We generalize the Peccei Quinn solution to the strong-CP problem, by replacing the Nambu-Goldstone potential with a quintessence potential admitting a tracker solution. We obtain in this way a cosmology where DM is accounted by axions, which come from the "angular" part of the scalar field, and Dark Energy by the "radial" part of the scalar field. The two dark components turn out to be suitably coupled. This cosmology depends on the same number of parameters as SCDM models, one parameter less than LCDM and several parameters less than usual coupled or uncoupled DE theories. In spite of that we obtain an excellent fit to CMB data. Further perspective are open for the solution of a number of problems concerning matter distribution in the world. We show that on the basis of the analysis of a spherical symmetric growth of top--hat fluctuations.
