Activities included in stays

In order to stay at other centers, the Ph. D. students have to prepare a specific project of activities, related to their research and of which its execution is viable inside the time constraints of their stay.

Students must work under the supervision of a supervisor that have already agreed to that project of activities and is committed to it.

This supervisor will write a brief report of the student activities and performance once his stay has ended.

In the supervision agreement an IP agreement on the results of the student during his stay will be included. The IP agreement will include the student and the thesis advisor (unless indicated otherwise)

Center selection criteria

The destination center and the resident supervisor will be selected at the request of the thesis supervisor, with the approval of the Academic Commission of the Doctorate programme.

In such selection the following points should be considered:

--The prestige of the center in Astrophysics, Astronomy and or Cosmology.;
--The foreign supervisor knowledge on the specific project researched by the student;
--The adequacy of the equipment of the center in relation with the student proposed activities;
--The assurance that the student work will correspond to his project.

The stays will be when they are relevant to the thesis and always in agreement with the thesis supervisor.

Multiple supervision in cases justified academically

The Doctorate Programme contemplates the case of a joint supervision in certain instances:

a)    When the research involves several disciplines.

b)    When the research is done in two research centers.

c)    When the doctoral thesis is the first of the supervisor.

d)    When the supervisor has no permanent position in his center.

e)    When it is requested by the student, evaluating the justification of such request.

Best Practices Guide

The U.A.M., and by extension the Astrophysics Doctorate Programme agrees to the Commission Recommendation of March 11th, 2005 related to the European Charter for Researchers and the Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers (http://ec.europa.eu/euraxess/index.cfm/rights/index)

The U.A.M. also has a Commission for Research Ethics:
