Requirements and admission criteria

In general, admission to the doctorate programmes will comply with the provisions of articles 6 and 7 from the R.D 99/2011 of January 28th, which regulates the official doctoral studies, as well as the articles 8 and 9 from the Regulations of Official Doctoral Studies of the U.A.M. (http://www.uam.es/normativadoctoradoUAM):

Admission criteria: (also from Art. 8)

For the students who pass the requirements, their merits will be assessed using the following evaluation criteria, and without any other specific requirements.

Evaluation criteria:

-The marks obtained by the candidate in his grade or master. They will weight 95%.
-Curriculum Vitae. Complementary activities as attendance to seminars, workshops, colloquia or summer schools related to Astronomy, Astrophysics or Cosmology, and knowledge of English at least at level B2 or the required to obtain grades at the Faculty of Sciences of the U.A.M. will be valued. They will weight 5%.

Added value merits (in case of a evaluation tie):

-Publications derived from the master thesis will be significant, but not essential.
-Letters of recommendation will be accepted, but the are not essential.                                                         

The same criteria will be applied to any student independently of their exclusive or partial dedication to the doctorate.

The authority which will process the admission is the Academic Commission of the Astrophysics Doctorate Programme.

Academic Commission of the Astrophysics Doctorate Programme

Tasks:

- Admission of the students in the Astrophysics Doctorate Programme.

- Authorisation of the documentation delivery to the Doctorate Commission of the U.A.M.

- Assignment of the advisor and thesis supervisor to the Ph.D. students.

- Management of the activities of the Ph.D. students.

- Monitoring the Ph.D. students.

- Monitoring of the Doctorate Programme.

- Planning.

- Quality guarantee of the Doctorate programme.
